MEPs asked for Ms Lagarde’s views on the issue of the global role for the euro within the current international context, the balance between useful simplification and damaging deregulation, stablecoins, and the balance between monetary and fiscal policy. Answering a question on the next steps for the digital euro on the eve of a vote on related legislation in the EP’s committee, Ms Lagarde said that bank notes were here to stay and that between the digital euro and bank notes, one did not exclude the other.
